glam.com launches tonight
Tonight is the glam.com launch at the brand new 43 south molton street venue. Maybe it is just me but I haven’t quit figured out the way glam.com is run and the whole point behind it, isn’t it just another website really? Im looking forward to go back to 43 SM, its been too long and I used to love it there, like 2 or 3 years ago it was amazing, every one knew everyone, being with like minded people, models (yes, models aren’t people, especially female ones) scene kids, designers, and great dj’s. thinking that a certain Freddie was just like 16 or 17 at the time.
Anyway, enjoy tonight, lets hope it lives up to the expectations.

Walter Van Beirendonck
Just wanted to quickly show some respect to Walter van Beirendonck who people tend to forget about on a regular basis, as he was part of the antwerp famous six it is quite hard to beat dries van noten at the moment, but im sure his time will still come to get the international recognition he deserves. you might have seen his strange head pieces he designed for ss 08 which were all over uk mags a couple of months ago, and worn on the cover on a recent arena homme plus
latest collection:
last night in london...
last night was a bit mad in london, it all started of with the comme de garcon launch at h&m, which was fun with oysters and champagne. if you are into comme de garcons classic dotted way overdone and so last seasons design then head there to get it for cheap (although cheap is relative) overall im quite fond of the collection, well done you!
after that we went to the Tank 10th anniversary party at fucking vendome, quite possibly the worst venue in the whole of london, you'd think people would learn after the ppq disaster there. it was very laim, shit music and shit drinks. good goody bag though (i stole 2, up yours tank) which included a £15 voucher for Liberty, Obsession by calvin klein fragrance, fake eye lashes, tea, make up and chocolate, ce parfait.
a friend of ours hosted a night there which was fun, kicked off after midnight, with percy from ppq hanging around surrounded by about a million underage ppq muses, funny to look at in his worn out adidas trainers.

and another magazine...
today i got the first issue of Buck in the post and i dont know what to say. i thought it would be amazing, but.. erm its not! the front cover is of ritchie foster (the for no reason oversuscribed model at select who has a mouth like a horse) i mean the concept 'new fashion furniture & food for men' i quite like, and some of the editorials are rather good but then the photoshoots are probably some of the worst ive seen in a long time. the mag tries to bring a very british vibe across which it does in one way or another but the bad layout and overall design of the zine doesnt implement that at all i find. below is an image from one of the editorials which is alright, but i found the front cover too bad to be posted here (or anywhere for that matter), take examples from mags like Exit, Deutsch or even Distill who are innovative and different. anyway, see for yourself...
erin vs kate
did you know that erin o'connor has never been on the cover of vogue alone??!!! i think this really quite funny since there has been such a recent obsession with her here in the uk, kate moss has been on 26!! the most anyone has ever had. above is the may 2003 cover shot by nick knight, one of my all time favourite covers

Men's Vogue: bad news
conde nast will fold the standalone title Men's Vogue and add a section to Vogue itself.
now men won't have any excuses buying VOGUE
now men won't have any excuses buying VOGUE
agent provocateur
... is hosting a party this thursday at koko in camden with a runway show.
since its koko, it might be a little cheesy especially if the public will be allowed in.
kill those f#cking UGG boots
Girls- Why?
since this australian chavtastic boot got popular over here in the uk i couldnt stand the sight of them. just look at them, they look like shit, are manufactured to the lowest standards and are worn by every 'wannabe it girl' (including the real ones) this planet has ever seen.
so please, i beg you girls and (some) boys, dont wear them, you look like dickheads in them- they might be mega comfortable.
YACK
as an alternative I suggest the very classic and stylish miu miu flats for you as below.
buy similar ones here: http://www.net-a-porter.com/Shop/Designers/Miu_Miu/Shoes
or the actual ones at a miu miu store. go on, do it, buy yourself some taste girls.
tartan overkill- and henry holland is copying others AGAIN
as you probably have seen for yourself, tartan is back and certainly will be worn everywhere fw 09. look at dolce gabbanas designs below as much as i love the design, i am not so sure. living in the uk i love everything british but seeing from an italian label left me curious, id much rather buy garments like that from vivienne westwood, who uses tartan in almost every collection.
shortly after we the dolce ads were published, aggys muse henry holland came out with almost the exact collection- only difference was the colour, everything was blue. (i have to admit that i dont actually mind it) the whole fashion industry is one vicious circle, decade after decade people will be copying in each other, which is cool, at the end of the day this is how trends a are created but for the love of god be a bit more subtle HENRY.
Comme De Garçon for H&M
last week on the 8th of november, the new CdG collection launched for h&m in tokyo, the collection will officially launch and be in stores in the uk as of the 13th. it looks really good, after the rather shitty collection of kate moss lets hope itll be as succefull and internationally respected as viktor and rolfs and karl lagerfelds collections.

soho house berlin
i guess you probably know this already but soho house is coming to berlin at the end of next year. the building is amazing, its an old jewish department store, then turned hitler youth "playground"on torstrasse in mitte/prenzlauer berg. it will have a cinema and of course a roof top pool as in london and new york and soon in miami, chicago etc

PPQ- down the drain
Right, PPQ has finally done it. peaches geldorf designing her own capsule collection for them is by far the saddest thing the fashion world has seen this year, well in the uk at least, fair nough ppq has this whole it-girl following and uber cool, but COME ON!!
if you wanna go to the launch party, its this thursday at movida, even that says it all.
purple, this is rather embarrassing for you.......

the new bistrotheque: FLASH
After the REINDEERN and BISTROTHEQUE Pablo Flack and David Waddington are set to open their latest gallery-like eatery FLASH at the Royal Academy of Arts, London.Open for only 80 days beginning November 1, Flash is described, rather cryptically, as a room-within-a-room. Meaning—unlike the flashy decor of The Reindeer, with its forty snow-covered fir trees—the interior design will consist of crates used to ship works of art. On display will be specially commissioned pieces by artists Alexis Teplin and Simon Popper, a coat of armor by Gareth Pugh, a Swarovski chandelier by Giles Deacon. The official photo shoot happened yesterday morning so as soon as I get the pics I’ll upload them here.
Cant wait for the opening.

KATIE GRAND LAUNCHES NEW STYLE BIANNUAL WITH CONDÉ NAST
Katie Grand, the creator and Editor-in-Chief of Pop magazine, is to launch a new style title. It will be published twice a year by Condé Nast, with the first issue arriving on newsstands in March 2009.Produced in a bespoke size, slightly larger than most monthlies, the magazine will be edgy and experimental, an exciting new entry into the style sector. It will be produced to the highest editorial and production standards. Nicholas Coleridge, Managing Director of Condé Nast, comments: "It is a new departure for Condé Nast UK to publish an edgy, high-end style title in this sector, and in Katie Grand we have the perfect Editor who brings the perfect team. This promises to be a very exciting launch."Katie Grand recently stood down from her post as Editor-in-Chief at Pop, the magazine she founded in 2000, and which set the standard for the slew of glossy fashion biannuals that followed. A hugely personal project that allowed her to experiment with new ideas in fashion and art, Pop was fun, edgy and influential in equal measure, becoming the magazine that the creative industry would turn to for inspiration. It allowed her to draw on her experience and influence as a highly sought-after fashion stylist – she has worked on the collections and advertising campaigns for many luxury brands, including Prada and Louis Vuitton. The new title is the fourth magazine to be set up by Katie Grand, who has a proven track record in successful launches. She set up the style magazine Dazed & Confused with friends Jefferson Hack and Rankin in 1993; a year later she became the launch editor of an experimental, fashion-led Dazed off-shoot, Another, which is now a fashion biannual. Pop was originally launched as a sister title to The Face, where Grand was Fashion Director from 2000 to 2003, and quickly grew to eclipse the famous Eighties style bible. The new launch will be an exciting, compelling mixture of experimentation and enthusiasm in the ever-changing fields of fashion and art. As work begins on the first issue, Katie Grand says: “I can’t wait to get started. I feel the time is ready for a new magazine, a new arena for new ideas. This time we’ll have a larger format, bigger budgets and broader horizons than ever before. With the wholehearted support of Condé Nast, there will be nothing to limit our imagination.”Jonathan Newhouse, Chairman of Condé Nast International adds: "I've admired Katie Grand and her work for many years. It's terrific that she's creating a new magazine for Condé Nast."There will be a further announcement revealing the name of the new magazine at a later date.

london fashion week going berlin
february dates confirmed since yesterday:
LONDON FASHION WEEK DATES FOR 2009 Friday 20th - Tuesday 24th February London Fashion Week: Autumn/Winter 2009/10 collections
so its official then i guess, they have shortened the days, but i was quite disappointed with london this september anyway.
as a little tip, this july i went to berlin fashion week for the first time and i would almost say that it is much better then london, certainly better then the small ones like amsterdam or copenhagen, but with the likes of VIVIENNE WESTOOD showing her anglomania stuff and, although a bit shitty, BASSO & BROOKE showing, it pulls in a great international crowd. berlin also hosted an amazing elle style awards show.
the way I see it, soon, berlin will kick london out of the way, over take us, and be up there with paris and new york.

tonight is an AMERICAN APPAREL PARTY IN SHOREDITCH, which i will tell you about tomorrow.
by the way, if you want to have a nice fireworks night, go to victoria park in east london on sunday night. it is londons biggest fire work display and usually fucking amazing.

GREY GOOSE/ Elton John party
so, wednesday I got this email for the aids awareness charity event by elton and grey goose. to be fair I got their quite late as I was at bureau before, still, I must say, amazing venue, matt irwin, jefferson hack, cocknbulkid, grimmy, mathew stone, trevor jackson and lovefoxxx were djing. endless amounts of free alcohol very good bar staff who made fantastic cocktails. the whole tent was decked out like a circus.
and at 2am we got a sponsored audi to take us home, the only nag is that it was set on gravel so not catwalk/high heel friendly. above is the invite
BUREAU launch with New Order 22nd Oct.
new members bar Bureau opened its doors this wednesday night with a small and exclusive opening. The sponsors included Laurent Perrier (of which I didnt see much), Courvoisier (which was mixed into a punch that wasnt exactly mind blowing) and Kettel One vodka. the bar staff made some great cocktails which were amazingly strong. the crowd was very mixed with some city slickers (you know the poor bastards who all look the same from the city) and the usual fashion scenees. Bureau is super small inside but very nicely designed and well thought through.
the theme they are trying to aim for is called the "anti club", what the hell is an anti club? apparently this: gone are silly door policies, velvet ropes and burly bouncers:instead the gates to its sumptuous surroundings open with the swipe of your membership card on a discret hidden door. (its opposite Red Bar in Kingly Court, sorry to spoil the surprise)
oh forgot to mention asahi beer also sponsored, which didnt see. so if will ever go, do not drink the punch, but the vodka cocktails.
I dont know what the music will be like as New Order and Jerry Bouthier played.
the beginning
this is an anonymous post for anyone and everyone who enjoys a free drink and a free party on someone else's expense, based one the creative and media industry.
dont get me wrong, I will only post events which I think are worth going to including gallery openings, club opening (good clubs not crap like movida or so), catwalk shows, fashion parties etc etc.
basically the ultimate "blag" guide for Londons cool, but in the end how you get in is your business.
enjoy
